چکیده

We investigated the potential superantigenic properties of Clostridium perfringens enterotoxin (CPE) on human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). In contrast to the findings of a previous report (P. Bowness, P. A. H. Moss, H. Tranter, J. I. Bell, and A. J. McMichael, J. Exp. Med. 176:893-896, 1992), two different, biologically active preparations of CPE had no mitogenic effects on PBMC. Furthermore, PBMC incubated with various concentrations of CPE did not elicit interleukin-1, interleukin-2, gamma interferon, or tumor necrosis factor alpha or beta, which are cytokines commonly associated with superantigenic stimulation. However, CPE did cause a dose-related release of interleukin-6 from PBMC cultures.

Mitogenic activity of Clostridium perfringens enterotoxin in human peripheral lymphocytes.

Clostridium perfringens enterotoxin (CPE) was found to possess interferon (IFN)-producing and mitogenic activities to human peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Both activities were demonstrated only in the T lymphocyte-rich fraction from healthy volunteers. The IFN produced appeared to be gamma-type since the activity of the IFN was neutralized by antiserum against human IFN-gamma. With formali...

Clostridium perfringens enterotoxin is a superantigen reactive with human T cell receptors V beta 6.9 and V beta 22

Candidate superantigens were screened for their ability to induce lysis of human histocompatibility leukocyte antigen class II-positive targets by human CD8+ influenza-specific cytotoxic T cell (CTL) lines. Clostridium perfringens enterotoxin (CPET) induced major histocompatibility complex unrestricted killing by some but not all CTL lines. Using "anchored" polymerase chain reactions, CPET was ...

Identification of enterototxin harboring gene among Clostridium perfringens isolates with different toxin types in Iran

Background: Clostridium perfringens is known as the most widely distributed pathogenic microorganism in nature. It is an extremely important pathogen of human and domestic animals. In a commonly used classification scheme, C. perfringens is divided into five toxinotypes (A to E) based on the production of four major toxins (alpha, beta, epsilon, and iota). Enterotoxin is not usually used for C....

Evaluation of proliferation and cytokines production by mitogen-stimulated bovine peripheral blood mononuclear cells

This in vitro study was conducted to evaluate lymphocyte blastogenic and cytokine production by bovine peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) stimulated with phytohemagglutinin (PHA), pokeweed mitogen (PWM) and concanavalin A (Con A) mitogens, by using tetrazolium salt and ELISA tests, respectively. The results presented that  Interleukin-2 (IL-2), IL-4, IL-5, IL-10, IL-17 and IFN-...
